J&D Wilkie is situated on a 10 acre site in the small Scottish
town of Kirriemuir. The town is the birth place of J M Barrie famous
for Peter Pan and lies at the Gateway to some of Scotland's most
beautiful country side. The company was established by James
and David Wilkie in 1868, and is one of Europe's leading manufacturers of
industrial textiles. We specalise in synthetic filament and spun
yarn weaving including acrylics, polypropylene and cotton blends.
We are also the only UK company still producing both woven and non
woven jute.
J & D Wilkie has seen a lot of changes through the years with
current products and processes probably unrecognisable to its founders.
However in order for companies to survive in this technologically
advanced dynamic industrial marketplace the ability to change and
be innovative is vital.
In
the beginning Wilkie's was, like many textile companies, primarily
jute weavers. We helped transform the traditional cottage industry
in to a centralised manufacturing plant utilising the modern technology
of the time. Since then the jute industry in the UK has shrunk considerably.
Fortunately Wilkie's have always been forward thinking and willing
to accept change, nurturing a culture that embraces innovation and
ideas. This culture is very much evident in the modern Wilkies highlighted
by our wide product base and commitment to quality and research
and development.
Our
ceaseless quest to ensure customer satisfaction has resulted in
a significant expansion to our fabrics with different yarns , weft
colour combinations and weave structures. Several of these newly
developed fabrics incorporate film laminates as base material allowing
us to weave split film laminate warps in a variety of combinations.
At the same time joint improvement programmes with our customers
have resulted in development of specialised and technical fabrics
suited to niche markets.
Our
aim is to provide a product which is tailor made for your business
backed by technical and support services which reflect the value
of our many years of experience. Nowadays Wilkie products travel
to every part of the globe
